
After School and Summer Program for New York City High School Youth with Legal Blindness or Vision Loss Funding by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development. Out of School Time (OST) grant includes paid employment and supervised recreation located at VISIONS at Selis Manor 135 W. 23rd Street, NY, NY. Activities include work in a snack bar, adapted computer center and other programs including bowling, dance, drama, photography, crafts, etc. Must be able to travel independently or use Access-a-ride.

Pre-vocational training for legally blind youth age 14 and older. Overnight
residential training at Vacation Camp for the Blind during February school
vacation and a Manhattan based training during Spring school break.

Family Services at Vacation Camp for the Blind during selected weekends from October through June and during two weeks in August. For children who are legally blind, funding is provided by the New York State Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped. For children with vision loss and developmental disabilities who qualify, funding may be provided by the NYS Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Blind and visually impaired children of all ages including those with multiple disabilities, their siblings and parents/guardians attend one-week sessions.

Children’s vision rehabilitation services at home. Funding from the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped for legally blind children. Funding from private grants for children with low vision and other disabilities. Service in all five boroughs may include rehabilitation teaching, orientation and mobility, occupational therapy and adapted equipment.
