VISIONS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!
VISIONS’ Intergenerational Volunteer Program recruits and trains high
school students to assist seniors who are blind. Working in pairs, the teens
travel (after school and during school vacation days) to the homes of seniors
who are blind to visit, read, shop, do errands and/or escort them to appointments
in the neighborhood. These friendly visits help to decrease the loneliness
and isolation often experienced by homebound elders.
Job Title: VISIONS Service Assistant (V.S.A.)
Days and Hours: 5 days a week (depending on school course load and flexibility). Minimum of 3 days a week. Services are provided between the hours of 3:00 pm -5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Stipend: $14.50
per day (one visit) plus transportation reimbursement.
Departure
from 500 Greenwich Street, NYC (West SoHo area of Manhattan)
Specific Duties: Shop for or with clients, escort, reading, computers, and “friendly visits.”
Requirements: Must
be punctual, reliable, mature, and have good reading and verbal communication
skills. Must be able to get to the VISIONS office by 3:15
pm or earlier or be able to get to client’s home by 4pm directly
from school. Must be able and willing to travel throughout
Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Must submit an application and
three references (two professional references from teachers, employers, etc.
and one personal reference from an adult family member or family friend).
