What Does VISIONS Future Hold?

Developing a First-Of-Its-Kind Assistive Technology Hub

The Summit Innovation Center will be a groundbreaking hub for accessibility and assistive technology, bringing together innovators, participants, and experts to design and test new tools that empower people who are blind or visually impaired to live more independently. This unique space will put VISIONS at the forefront of shaping the next generation of inclusive technology and services.

Revitalizing VISIONS Center on Blindness

The next phase of VCB’s evolution includes modernizing our dormitories, cabins, and shared spaces. The goal is to create a welcoming and fully accessible environment that supports year-round learning, rehabilitation, and recreation. For nearly a century, VCB has been a home away from home for thousands of participants and their families, and now, these upgrades will ensure that participants experience comfort, dignity, and community for years to come.

Transforming Adaptive Sports and Recreation

VISIONS is reimagining what inclusive recreation can be. Plans include a full renovation of our accessible gym with adaptive fitness equipment, transforming our beautiful lake into a swim-ready space and adding a safe and exciting zip-line, expanding VCB’s accessible sensory trails, and creating additional multi-use outdoor areas for sports, wellness, and connection. These improvements will make VCB a national model for adaptive recreation and lifelong well-being.

Other Ways to Donate

Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) are private funds that encompass contributions of cash, and non-cash assets like stocks, mutual funds shares, bonds, and private stock. DAFs allow donors to suggest the placement and distribution of charitable gifts, while taking advantage of tax benefits (up to 60% of adjusted gross income).

Gifts of Appreciated Stock

Gifts of Appreciated Stock may include stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares. Benefits include an immediate charitable deduction for the full market value of the stock (as long as you have held them for more than a year), and avoidance of capital gains taxes that would normally be due upon sale.

Qualified IRA Charitable Distributions

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) are tax-free transfers from your IRA (other than an ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRA) made directly to qualified charities, like VISIONS. These donations can satisfy all or part of your IRA’s required minimum distribution, while not counting against your taxable income once deposited. You can donate up to $105,000 each year as of 2024.
